« Anyone who grew up in the mountains knows the feeling of dazzle associated with the sparkle of light on snow-covered surfaces. Fabien Lamarque grew up in another latitude, in contact with another sparkle, that of the sun’s rays on the sea.

The artist – who makes his own canvases – first begins by choosing the fabrics he will paint, on the lookout for potential plays with light, surface effects catalyzed by the sun and vibrations induced by the nature of the thread and its weaving.

Satin, shiny or even moiré, these fabrics are all raw materials to choose and think about. The artist then acts in two ways. Sometimes he builds the wooden structure on which to stretch the fabrics. He thus freely defines the shape and dimensions of his paintings. Sometimes, he does not use a wooden frame and the resulting canvas is hung on the wall using two fine spikes. »
